About Emerge

Q1. What does Emerge do?

Founded and operated by experienced transportation professionals, Emerge delivers best-in-class technology (ProcureOS) focused squarely on transportation procurement. Whether working to optimize an expansive, multi-modal network RFP or simply looking to cover a few spot shipments for the day, shippers rely on Emerge as a trusted partner. Embedded into ProcureOS is the Emerge Marketplace, giving shippers unprecedented visibility and access into untapped, vetted capacity from proven asset carriers. The company's legal name is EmergeTech, Inc., and it is not related to other businesses that use the Emerge name.

Q2. Who founded Emerge, and who runs it today?

Andrew Leto founded Emerge, and Michael Leto is Co-Founder and President. Mark McEntire is CEO. The leadership team also includes Brad Blomstrom (CFO), Ben Sanders (CTO) and Brad Wheeler (EVP of Sales), and the board of directors includes Andrew Leto, Michael Leto, Tracy Black, George Abernathy, Will Szczerbiak and David Fisher. The full team is on the about page.

Q3. When was Emerge founded, and where is it based?

Emerge was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, where most of the team works. Some roles are remote, and open positions are listed on the careers page.

Q4. How big is Emerge?

On the supply (shipper) side, nearly $50 billion in freight spend has been procured within Emerge ProcureOS operated by a wide variety of shippers ranging in size from small businesses to Fortune 100 companies. From the demand (carrier & broker) side, over 45,000 users have engaged with their shipper customers within ProcureOS.

Q5. Which Emerge website or login do I need?

The company website is emergemarket.com. Shippers and carriers sign in to the platform at login.emergemarket.io with an email and password, a one-time code, or a Google or Microsoft account. Step-by-step guides for shippers and carriers are in the Emerge Help Center.

How Emerge works with your carriers

Q6. Is Emerge a freight broker?

Emerge is a software company first. Shippers license ProcureOS to run bids and spot quotes with their own carriers and brokers, and on those loads the shipper contracts directly with its own carrier for the transportation services provided. For any capacity sourced through the Emerge Marketplace, shippers contract directly with Emerge for execution. Emerge arranges the freight with the underlying carrier as the broker on record.

Q7. Who can see my rates and bids?

Your bids, rates and lane data stay in your Emerge account, and Emerge never shares your company's data with external vendors. Carriers see the loads and bid events you open to them: your own carriers when you invite them, and Emerge Marketplace carriers only when you post to the marketplace. Emerge is SOC 2 Type II and hosts data in US and EU data centers.

Q8. Do I have to move freight through Emerge Marketplace?

No. With our “Platform Only” option you license ProcureOS and run procurement across your existing carriers and brokers, but with no access to additional capacity through the Marketplace.

Q9. How does Emerge vet marketplace carriers?

Minimum requirements for a carrier to be eligible to participate in the Emerge Marketplace include, but are not limited to:

  • An active operating authority for at least 24 consecutive months and at least one DOT inspection
  • A satisfactory safety rating or no rating
  • No industry reports of holding a load hostage, unresolved claims, fraud or double brokering
  • At least $100,000 in cargo insurance and $1,000,000 in auto liability insurance

More information on Emerge carrier vetting requirements and protocols can be found in how Emerge verifies carriers.

Q10. What happens if there is a cargo claim on a marketplace load?

Marketplace carriers must carry at least $100,000 in cargo insurance and $1,000,000 in auto liability insurance, and Emerge adds contingent coverage in case a carrier's auto or cargo policy does not respond. If a load needs more coverage than that, ask your Emerge representative before you book it.

Q11. Is Emerge a TMS?

For most shippers, Emerge ProcureOS is most effectively leveraged as a complementary solution beside or within their traditional TMS. Where traditional TMSs focus on shipment execution and management post procurement, Emerge adds robust procurement functionality, traditionally not a function TMSs focus on. However, Emerge ProcureOS does provide lightweight TMS functionality to shippers who are looking for an upgrade from manual processes to a more streamlined process in tendering, tracking, and reporting.

Pricing and getting started

Q12. How much does Emerge cost?

Emerge builds a custom price around the procurement capabilities you need, the amount and type of freight you manage, and the level of partnership you want. See the pricing page for additional information.

Q13. Do you charge per user or per load?

There are no hidden fees charged on a per load basis to Emerge users. All fees charged by Emerge to its platform users originate either from a formally executed SaaS agreement or through standard transportation service fees corresponding to successfully executed shipments by carriers sourced by the shipper within the Emerge Marketplace.

Q14. How long does it take to get started?

Onboarding is led by a dedicated procurement expert from Emerge supporting you in initial account setup as well as strategic consultation around custom configuration options. Setup timelines can range anywhere from one day to 6-8 weeks depending on the urgency and complexity of system configurations. But no matter how you’d like to leverage Emerge, our support team moves at your pace.

Q15. Can I see Emerge before I buy?

Yes. Prospective shippers can walk through the platform in the product tour or book a demo with a procurement expert.

Inside ProcureOS

Q16. What can I do in ProcureOS?

ProcureOS offers shippers two core modules focusing on contract and spot freight procurement. Though each module hosts a distinct execution workflow, shippers benefit from a single login in order to easily access both.

Within the contract module, shippers invite their own carrier and broker networks to participate in RFPs ranging in size from small mini bids to more complex, multi-modal annual events. ProcureOS pairs an elegant UX with powerful scenario optimization allowing shippers to make more informed, confident decisions within their transportation network. Within the spot module, shippers invite their carriers and brokers to participate in a streamlined spot bidding environment. Whether integrated with a shipper’s ERP/TMS, or operated as a standalone platform, shippers benefit from unparalleled customization options ranging from complete process automation through Dynamic Book-It-Now to hosting a more traditional spot bidding environment.

Embedded within ProcureOS is Emerge AI, where shippers can leverage their own personal agent to retrieve critical data insights and recommendations to drive continuous optimization across their network.

Shippers also have the option to tap into a network of vetted asset capacity through the Emerge Premier Carrier program.

Q17. What is Dynamic Book It Now?

Dynamic Book-It-Now (DBIN) within the spot module of ProcureOS offers a completely customizable automation workflow designed for shippers looking to balance cost, service, and efficiency. The foundation of DBIN is built on Rate Pulse, which factors in real-time metrics like market rate and buying behavior to establish an intelligent cost estimate. From there, shippers configure a starting and ceiling DBIN rate threshold to offer to their eligible carrier and broker network. Shippers and invited carriers and brokers alike reap the benefits of a more efficient spot buying environment.

Q18. What is Emerge AI?

Emerge AI is leveraged throughout ProcureOS and is focused primarily on spend and service optimization within features like RFP scenario optimization, Rate Pulse, and Dynamic Book-It-Now. Additionally, Emerge AI provides shippers with their own personal agent to assist them in uncovering network optimization opportunities as well as personalized recommendations for actioning those insights.

Q19. Which freight modes and regions does Emerge cover?

Emerge supports truckload, partial, intermodal, LTL, air, drayage, and ocean procurement. ProcureOS Spot focuses predominantly on US, Canada, and Mexico geographies while ProcureOS Contract offers global support.

Q20. Where does Emerge's market data come from?

We use several sources, including FreightWaves SONAR, which provides market analysis through Emerge's data partners. Contract benchmarking uses that data to show where your lanes sit against the market.

Q21. How secure is Emerge?

Emerge is SOC 2 Type II, offers US and EU data hosting, and never shares your company's data with external vendors. Security documents are in the Emerge Trust Center.

For carriers

Q25. How do I join Emerge as a carrier?

Create a free account at login.emergemarket.io, choose Carriers, and enter your company details with your docket number including "MC" (for example MC12345). Then complete your carrier packet and keep your certificate of insurance current. Compliance reviews the packet in up to 2 business days, and the requirements are in the carrier setup guide.

Q26. Does it cost carriers anything to use Emerge?

No. Carriers join Emerge for free and book freight directly with shippers at no cost to the carrier, unless they are exploring Capacity Link.

Q27. How and when do carriers get paid?

Payment follows your payment terms, generally net 30 days from the date Emerge receives your invoice. Email one packet per load (invoice, proof of delivery, bill of lading and rate confirmation) with the shipment number in the subject line and on the invoice. Faster payment by ACH is available through Quick Pay, and if you factor, send your Notice of Assignment and Letter of Release to Emerge's billing team; the change is processed within 24 to 48 hours. The steps are in the carrier payment FAQ.

Q28. What is the Emerge Premier Program?

Designed to bring unprecedented transparency between shippers and carriers, the Premier Program rewards proven asset-based carriers with the ability to market their services directly to shippers within Emerge on contract and spot freight opportunities. Carriers must apply to join the Emerge Premier Program and maintain required performance standards in order to retain access to the program.

Q29. How do I find and bid on loads?

Emerge Marketplace for carriers shows new spot loads every day from more than 10,000 lanes. Set alerts for your preferred lanes, book instantly where Book It Now is on, or bid on contract lanes when a shipper invites you to an RFP. The RFP bid guide walks through a contract bid.

Q30. How do I reach Emerge support?
